I had heard a lot about Ron Paul, but I never knew what he stood for. I knew he had a massive youth/internet following, and that he was the only Republican candidate who was against the War in Iraq. My history teacher said that he was basically a liberal.
A couple days ago, I got onto his website and started reading for myself what Ron Paul really stands for. He isn't a liberal, in fact, he's pretty much as conservative as a person can get. He is against tax increases, against supporting illegal immigrants, and against pretty much anything the government does to get in the way of its citizens. He is against the War in Iraq because he doesn't believe America should be involved in the affairs of other countries. He is a libertarian; a good one. He wants a small government that does what a government should, and to be honest, I love his ideals.
In my ninth grade government class, we ran an election. My party was the Constitutionalist Party, we stood for everything the Constitution was (and won). Ron Paul's campaign is like that, but I don't know how effective a President Ron Paul would be.
He has great ideals, but I don't think our country is ready for them. He would bring radical change to this country. It would be change in the right direction; but it would be violent change. No man can put America through radical change and come out on the good side. It cannot be done. Our economy would suffer, other nations would take advantage of our apathetic foreign policy, and America would be dealt severe damage. I love the ideals of Ron Paul, I might even vote for him, but I don't think he can implement all the changes he wants to without drastic consequences.
